POLITICAL THEORY OF THE MIDDLE AGES
Niccolò Machiavelli's sprit animal would definitely be wolf, and not in a good, independent, moody kind of way. His negative experiences with the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages influenced his major political treatise, called The Prince. He argued for near totalitarian rule in monarchies in order to achieve peace and stability within the state. Instead of being a lamb, weak to the prejudices of normal morality, the Prince or leader, is allowed to act under a different moral code in which ethical dilemmas can get blurry and right and wrong lose meaning. Although he's usually associated with a negative connotation, Machiavelli's principles are extremely relevant to modern political theory, as he's named the "Father of Modern Politics."
